Sage Thatcher and Lily Dominguez are dedicated Ashland High School wrestlers who earned their opportunity to compete through a strong regular season and consistent performance. However, due to irregularities and breakdowns in communication surrounding the district qualification process, they were denied the opportunity to weigh in and participate in the 5A/6A Girls District 4 tournament. This was a logistical issue, not a competitive one, and not the fault of the student-athletes. As a result, they were unable to advance despite being prepared, eligible, and ready to compete. Both athletes have invested years of disciplined training, academic commitment, and personal sacrifice into their sport. Our goal is not to assign blame, but to respectfully seek clarity and advocate for a fair and equitable solution so that students are not penalized for circumstances beyond their control. We are respectfully seeking a formal resolution to this situation with OSAA and a fair review of the circumstances surrounding the district qualification process. To demonstrate community support and encourage thoughtful consideration, we have created a petition.
